Erling Braut Haaland’s path to Premier League records

Manchester City striker Erling Braut Haaland continued his explosive start to life in the Premier League with yet another goal on Saturday.

The Norwegian netted against Southampton to take his tally for the season to 15 goals in nine appearances – the fastest any player has reached that total since the EPL’s inception.

All new betting sites rate Haaland as a banker bet to win the Golden Boot and his final tally could blow the previous record out of the water.

Haaland has already broken several Premier League records including becoming the first player to score a hat-trick in three consecutive home games in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old is well on course to smash the record for goals in a Premier League season if he continues at the same scoring rate.

The record of 34 is held jointly by Andrew Cole (1993/94) and Alan Shearer (1994/95), although their totals were recorded during 42-game seasons.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah holds the record for a 38-game EPL campaign with the 32 he netter in 2017/18.

At his current scoring rate, Haaland is on track to score 63 goals – a total that would top the 60 netted by Everton’s Dixie Dean in 39 First Division games in 1927/28.

While it is difficult to imagine that Haaland will continue scoring at the same pace, he should have no problem blowing away his rivals in the Golden Boot race.

The striker also has plenty of time to set a new mark for the most goals scored in a calendar month having come close to breaking the record earlier this season.

Luis Suarez netted 10 goals for Liverpool in December 2013 and Haaland was just one shy of equalling that total in August.

He has scored four goals this month and Man City still have games to play against Liverpool (A), Brighton & Hove Albion (H) and Leicester City (A) in October.

Haaland should easily surpass Kevin Phillips’ record of 19 goals scored in the first 20 EPL games, while Cole’s 28 in 30 matches is also in reach.

Cole has the record of the fewest games needed to score 30 goals (32) in the Premier League and the City striker is on course to smash that.

Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy scored in the most consecutive EPL games (11) – Halaand needs to score in his next five games to surpass that.

Another three hat-tricks would see Haaland beat Shearer’s record of five set in 1995/96, while you wouldn’t bet against him becoming the first player to next six goals in a Premier League game.

He may well become the fastest player to reach 100 Premier League goals, with Shearer’s century for Blackburn Rovers coming in 124 matches.

Although Shearer may see some of his records broken by Haaland, his coveted status as the Premier League’s record goalscorer may not come under threat from the Norwegian.

Haaland has expressed a desire to test himself in La Liga at some point in his career so might not be in the EPL long enough to beat Shearer’s tally of 260 goals.
