Premier League: Top four prediction

We are already one-fifth of the way through the 2022/23 Premier League season and there’s been plenty for fans to debate since we got underway.

Manchester City are the only unbeaten team after eight games and all the top betting sites in Ireland unsurprisingly make them favourites to win the title.

Arsenal may have something to say about that after winning seven of their eight matches, while it is too early to write off several other teams.

With that in mind, read on as we predict which teams will fill the top four positions in the Premier League at the end of the season.

1. Manchester City

While City are one point behind Arsenal after eight games it would be a brave move to back against Pep Guardiola’s team winning yet another title.

City’s recent 6-3 victory over Manchester United perfectly highlighted their strength in depth and they are strongly fancied to finish top this season.

New striker Erling Braut Haaland has been in stunning form during the early part of the campaign, netting 14 goals in eight league appearances.

The former Borussia Dortmund star is on track to score more than 50 league goals this term – it would be no surprise to see him achieve the feat as City sweep to the title.

2. Arsenal

The Gunners have been excellent in the Premier League this season, with a 3-1 defeat at Man United the only blip on their record to date.

Mikel Arteta’s side produced a dominant display against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend and they will believe they can challenge for the title.

Given the resources at City’s disposal, it is difficult to imagine any team finishing close to them, but Arsenal certainly look equipped to nab second place.

If they can keep their key players fit, Arsenal should have enough about them to claim the runners-up spot this season.

3. Liverpool

Liverpool were tipped to be the main challengers to City this season, but things have not gone to plan over the past few weeks.

The Reds are currently ninth in the table after winning two and drawing four of their first seven matches in the top flight.

Several of their top players have been underperforming, but the suspicion remains that the team will eventually click into gear.

With question marks hanging over some of their main rivals, Liverpool have plenty of time to force their way into the top four.

4. Chelsea

Chelsea splashed the cash during the summer and anything less than a top four finish will be seen as a major failure.

Graham Potter has replaced Thomas Tuchel as manager and the pressure is on the former Brighton & Hove Albion boss to prove he is up to the task of coaching a big club.

His appointment should help the Blues get the best out of some of their underperformers and that may be enough to secure a top four spot.

Tottenham and Man United are unlikely to be too far behind, but Chelsea can fend them off to claim the final Champions League qualification place.
