Sertori was a regular in the centre of the defence for York City last season losing his place after the home defeat by Exeter in February. Shortly afterwards his contract was cancelled by mutual consent and he joined Shrewsbury on a monthly contract. He made just a single appearance from the subs bench for the Gay Meadow club before signing a three-month contract for Cheltenham. He was used as cover for injured central defenders Sertori Freeman and Neil Howarth although he made one appearance as a makeshift striker, a position he had played in regularly in the early days of his career. Carl is a strong tackling central defender who uses his height to good effect and always gives 100% effort for the cause.
