Shrewsbury Town v Macclesfield Town, 19 August 2000

Having saved their League status by their skin of their teeth in May, Shrewsbury came within an ace of starting their 2000/01 Gay Meadow programme with a morale boosting victory. Macc's Darren Tinson was the party-pooper though as he bundled home an injury-time equaliser from Kieran Durkan's corner. Shrews boss Kevin Ratcliffe rang the changes after the opening day debacle at Barnet. It seemed to have the desired effect as Steve Jagielka struck in the opening exchanges. The Silkmen fought back and drew level when Ben Sedgemore rose to steer Durkan's left wing cross just inside the far post. Jagielka restored the home advatage when he stretched to volley Sam Aiston's superb cross from the left flank. Tinson's late intervention denied the Shrews only their third win in eighteen attempts. In turn, the visitors have now recorded only seven wins since Peter Davenport took the helm in January.
