Freestone had a disappointing time for Shrewsbury in 2000-01. Manager Kevin Ratcliffe persevered with him in the early weeks of the campaign but his only goals came in the Worthington Cup tie against Preston and against Cheltenham in the FA Cup. He eventually lost his place and started just one game in the second half of the season.
