Plymouth Argyle v Mansfield Town, 26 August 2000

Beleagured Plymouth were releived to notch their first win of the new term at their third attempt. The frustration was beginning to mount as a battling Mansfield side - having posted draws at Cheltenham and Barnet in their opening games - held the home team into the second half. Argyle's luck turned before the hour mark though when a Craig Taylor header was turned into his own net by Stuart Hicks. Paul McGregor had missed the first two games through suspension and his influence grew as the Pilgrims grew in confidence. Last season's 16-goal top scorer netted his first of 2000-01 with a right foot volley after Sean McCarthy nodded down Martin Phillips' cross. The former Nottingham Forest star was also involved in the game's other major incident. Darrell Clarke's foul on McGregor was his second bookable offence.
