Sheffield began 2000-01 as first choice 'keeper for Plymouth Argyle and produced some sound performances until dropping out with an injury in November. He returned to the team once fit again but then lost his place in the new year to new signing Romain Larrieu. Sheffield is a fine shot stopper who is quick off his line to thwart opposing forwards.
Having joined the coaching staff at Yeovil Town, Sheffield was re-registered on non-contract terms in November 2003.
