With 25 attempts on goal - compared to Lincoln's 9 - there was more frustration for Brian Little's Hull as they failed to complete their first win of the season. The Tigers took command from the start and were good value for their lead. They quickly turned defence into attack when keeper Lee Bracey punched clear a Lincoln corner. Theo Whitmore fed John Eyre on the right and his cross was forced home by David Brown. The Imps enjoyed more familiar success from their next flag kick. As the interval beckoned,Bracey struggled to deal with Paul Mayo's wicked left-footed inswinger and Steve Holmes headed in the loose ball at the near post. Premiership ref Stephen Lodge turned away home appeals for obstruction. Hull continued to probe with purpose but failed to convert. The agony was complete in injury-time when Ex-Imp Lee Philpott's shot was parried by keeper Alan Marriott in to the path of Jason Harris (another former Lincoln man) but he missed a glorious chance by inches.
