This experienced central defender was brought in to add height and steel to the Lincoln back line-up. He signed on a three-year contract and for the opening games of last season he appeared in the middle of a five-man defence. However he injured an ankle at Hull at the end of August and his only further first team experience was as a substitute for the final four minutes against Mansfield the following month. Richard developed sciatica and eventually underwent an operation for a prolapsed disc. He was back in light training at the end of the 2000-01 season.
