On the longest run in their history without a win, Mansfield can claim that the didn't have the rub of the green in this generally dour Third Division struggle. It was Stag Chris Greenacre who came closest to breaking the deadlock for a Town team who last tasted victory at Rotherham on 17 March. The ex-Manchester City striker hit the same upright twice in the last half hour. Exeter - whose most recent win dated back to 24 April - had their best opportunity in the first half. Alex Inglethorpe broke clear but, as he tried to round the keeper, Bobby Mimms called on all of his experience and managed to get his hands to the ball. New League referee Phil Prosser was a busy man. He flourished ten cards - including the two yellows that meant Grecian defender Neil Whitworth saw red. Sympathetic Town boss Billy Dearden claimed there was not a nasty tackle in the game.
