Lomas joined Mansfield in the 2000 close season and was initially used from the subs' bench. He quickly broke into the team and just as he seemed to be settling down he sustained medial and cruciate ligament injuries in the away game at Chesterfield in September. He was out of action for several months before returning to the reserves in February although he made no further senior appearances. Lomas can play on the right hand side of either defence or midfield and is an impressive figure bringing the ball forward.
