Crystal Palace vs Sheffield United preview

Only three points separate Crystal Palace and Sheffield United before they meet at Selhurst Park on Saturday, but the hosts are the only Premier League team heading into the weekend without a win in their last five games.

The Eagles have slipped down to 11th after an impressive start and with a seven-point lead over the drop zone they are desperately looking for three points to prevent them getting sucked into a relegation battle.

Sheffield United will kickoff only six points behind Manchester United in fifth in what has so far been an unbelievable season back in the top flight, under Chris Wilder.

The Blades were 1-0 winners at Bramall Lane when these two sides met back in August. John Lundstram scored the only goal of the game as Crystal Palace caused very little threat to Dean Henderson’s goal.

Those who are thinking Sheffield United could do the league double over the London club will be excited to see a price of 29/20 on an away win with Foxy bingo 2020. The Yorkshire club had started the season with nine unbeaten games on the road, but following a defeat at Manchester City at the end of 2019, are now winless in three away games (D1, L2).

Crystal Palace have won just one of their last nine in the Premier League and even lost at home to Championship strugglers Derby County in the FA Cup earlier this month.

Crystal Palace vs Sheffield United team news

Centre-back Mamadou Sakho is sidelined once again having only recently come back from a long-term injury. The former Paris Saint-Germain defender is suffering with a hamstring issue.

Patrick van Aanholt is suffering from a similar problem so Jairo Riedewald is getting a rare run out at left-back lately.

Pacey wingers Andros Townsend and Jeffrey Schlupp could both be absent for Roy Hodgson’s side too, adding more misery to the manager.

Sheffield United haven’t had too many injury concerns this season and Chris Wilder currently has a fully fit squad to pick from.

Predicted Crystal Palace Lineup (4-3-3): Vicente Guaita; Martin Kelly, James Tomkins, Gary Cahill, Jairo Riedewald; Cheikhou Kouyate, James McArthur, James McCarthy; Jordan Ayew, Cenk Tosun, Wilfried Zaha

Predicted Sheffield United Lineup (3-5-2): Dean Henderson; Chris Basham, John Egan, Jack O’Connell; George Baldock, Muhamed Besic, Oliver Norwood, John Fleck, Enda Stevens; David McGoldrick, Oliver McBurnie

Crystal Palace vs Sheffield United key stats

2 – Only Liverpool (0) have lost fewer away games than Sheffield United (2) so far this season.

5 – Crystal Palace are on the longest current streak without a win in the Premier League (D4, L1).

8 – Only Liverpool (9) have kept more clean sheets in the Premier League than Sheffield United (8) so far this season.

Crystal Palace vs Sheffield United Prediction

If the first meeting between these two back in August was anything to go by, this could be a game of few opportunities. However, I am leaning towards an away win.

Chris Wilder is a very good tactician whilst Crystal Palace are struggling to shut out opponents in the Premier League this season.
