It’s the biggest sport in the world and the biggest names in world football are known throughout the globe by billions. They provide the masses with their talent and entertain households up and down the land. Over time there have been some absolutely unreal players and some even better characters on the pitch. From the likes of Pele and Cruyff’s raw talent to the cheeky mischievous Maradona and George Best, the sport has provided fans with amazing players who have shown just why football is the most popular sport in the world. Although, the game has changed, some of the players playing in this day and age certainly qualify amongst the best ever and rival the greats of the past. We are going to have a look at the biggest names in world football and see just who is topping the bill in the beautiful game.

Lionel Messi

Arguably the best player ever. Lionel Messi has consistently broken records and dazzled on the football pitch. His goal scoring record at Barcelona is nothing short of insane and he offers consistent excellence on the world stage time and again. This little magician is a genius on the field and has won a record six Ballon D’Ors to prove it. He is known by almost everyone on the planet and will go down in history as one of the best names in world football – ever.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Messi’s arch rival is another astonishing player. In fact, I think it would be fair to assume that without Ronaldo, Messi would not have made it to the dizzying heights that he has. Ronaldo would become one of the best and biggest names in world football before his Real Madrid move but it was at Los Blancos that he became the best of the best. With a goal tally not far behind Messi, Ronaldo is a legend. A man betting on football game predictions would be backing Ronaldo to score in almost every game. Neymar

Not on the same level as the top two, but Neymar is widely considered to be the third best player in the world. Whilst this trio are the biggest names in world football, their careers will eventually come to a close. This means the way must be paved for the next generation of world class talent. There are two real stand out young players who are playing out their skins and fast approaching becoming the best in the world. Neymar’s teammate, Mbappe is electric. Having already won the world cup and constantly performed at the highest level with PSG this young man has a bright future ahead of him. 

Perhaps one of the most known young players in the game right now is Alfonso Davies. This young man has a great story behind him as he worked his way from a Ghanaian refugee in Canada to arguably the best young left back in the world. After making a name for himself in Canada, this solid defender with lightning speed made his way to Bayern Munich where at the ripe age of 19 has already picked up a Champions League trophy. He is one to watch for sure.
