Women’s Euro 2025 Preview
England Women are the defending champions following their success on home soil which gave them their first major silverware in an international tournament.
They subsequently reached the Women’s World Cup final the following year, but were defeated 1-0 in a tense encounter at Stadium Australia.
England’s preparations for the tournament have been disrupted by goalkeeper Mary Earps’ decision to retire from international football.
It will be intriguing to see how this impacts England’s chances in Switzerland, but they make limited appeal as potential winners this summer.
They have been drawn alongside France and Netherlands in the opening stage and there is no guarantee they will progress to the knockout phase.
Germany have won the European title in eight of the previous 13 editions and could be a tough nut to crack, while Sweden could also be competitive.
However, Spain are strongly fancied to add the European title to their collection and cement their status as the best team in women’s football at the moment.
