After almost nine months out with the injury, Wilshere is stepping up preparations for a return to first team duties with run outs for the Arsenal under 21 side. With England boss Roy Hodgson failing to rule out a place in his squad for Wilshere for the upcoming European Championships, the midfielder must now impress in the remainder of the campaign to be sure of his place.
Wilshere was undoubtedly one of his country’s strongest performers, with two goals against Slovenia in his final appearance for England, before being struck down by injury. Having featured heavily in his side’s first six fixtures during qualification, Wilshere was proving himself to be a vital part of the England set up, predominantly being utilised in a deep lying midfield role.
With plenty of questions still to be answered regarding the inclusion of Wilshere for Euro 2016, bookmaker Coral’s markets currently offer odds of 4/6 for the twenty four year old to make it onto the plane to France. The likes of Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Ross Barkley have all shone in the England shirt in recent months, with victories over France and Germany, meaning Wilshere certainly needs to return to full fitness if he is to make the squad. The Gunners boss has seen his side slip up yet again in the chase for the title, and will now have to be content with a place in the top four. Wenger’s side are 1/25 on to achieve the impressive feat of participation in the Champions League for 19 consecutive seasons, with rivals Manchester United 11/4 with Coral to seal their place in the top four with what would be a surprise finish to the season.
