This ever-popular York City left back received a testimonial match against Middlesbrough in August 2000 but his 13th season at Bootham Crescent proved somewhat unlucky as he suffered from a string of niggling injuries that severely restricted his first-team opportunities. However he played sufficient games to reach fourth place in the Minstermen's all-time appearance list before being released in May. Wayne is a reliable defender known for his consistency.
