Having lost their opening fixture at Blackpool to two late goals, Hull's players slumped to the ground as Martin Gritton snatched a last ditch point in the 2000/01 Boothferry Park curtain raiser. Brian Little's Tigers dominated from start to finish but only had Theo Whitmore's goal to show for their efforts. The Jamaican maestro - who had only returned to England previous day after international duty - latched on to John Eyre's calculated pass to beat keeper Sheffield with a low right-foot shot. City continued to push forward after the interval and it was Whitmore who produced their best effort. An audacious 20 yard lob was brilliantly tipped over by the Pilgrims goalie. Although Kevin Hodges' disappointed, they never dropped their heads and finally struck three minutes into stoppage time. Wayne O'Sullivan's deep cross from the right was knocked back by Terry Fleming for sub Gritton to drive home through a crowd of Tigers.
