Wood started the first three games of the 2000-01 season and it appeared that new Hull City manager Brian Little had decided that he was the man to lead his Tigers attack.

However, an untimely ankle injury wrecked his hopes and the only other occasion when he made the starting line-up was for the LDV Vans Trophy defeat at Chester City in December.

Wood continued to provide enthusiastic backup from the bench but with City signing Kevin Francis and Rodney Rowe his opportunities became increasingly limited.

He was released by Hull in May 2001 and after a season at Halifax Town moved on to Swansea City.
