Mansfield Town's Chris Greenacre staked his claim for Goal of the Season on the 2000/01 opening day. With a strike similar to that more famously associated with David Beckham, the former Manchester City striker lashed a throughball home from fully 40 yards. Veteran midfielder Mark Blake also experienced a novel scoring start to the new campaign by scoring at both ends before Robins' defender Neil Howarth concluded the afternoon's entertainment when he claimed a late equaliser after Stags' keeper Ian Bowling failed to deal with a cross. It retained Cheltenham's unbeaten record against the Nottinghamshire outfit.
