While Blackpool remained unbeaten, battling Leyton lost their 100% 2000/01 record despite twice taking the lead. The Os were still delighted with a points haul of seven from their first three games though - especially compared to their wretched start last term when they suffered three straight defeats. Aussie Richard Garcia stole the show with his first senior goals. On loan from East London neighbours West Ham United, the 18 year-old from Perth gave the visitors an early lead after Carl Griffiths nodded John Martin's cross back across the six yard box. The Tangerines were soon back on level terms when veteran midfielder Paul Simpson netted for the second home game in a row. His 20 yard free-kick was deflected past Ashley Bayes. Even without the suspended David McGhee, Orient looked the more progressive side and deservedly restored their advantage before the interval. They forced a series of corners, then Garcia found the net again - his acrobatic overhead kick from 18 yards out somehow found its way past a ruck of defenders and a startled Tony Caig. Steve McMahon's men were forced to battle all the way for the third Saturday in a row, and were rewarded when Brett Ormerod swung over an inch perfect cross for Phil Clarkson to head home his first goal since March.
