Manchester United fancied to derail Liverpool’s title challenge

Manchester United host Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday hoping to continue their resurgence under temporary manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Red Devils are unbeaten in the league under Solskjaer and are likely to provide a massive test for Liverpool this weekend.

United produced a superb performance at Stamford Bridge on Monday, progressing to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup courtesy of an impressive 2-0 victory.

They are priced at around 2/1 to win Sunday’s game with bookmakers listed at your-promotional-code.co.uk and that looks exceptional value.

Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard are both ruled out for United, while Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian remain on the sidelines.

David De Gea is expected to return in goal, despite Sergio Romero’s excellent display against Chelsea.

Solskjaer faces a big decision up front, with Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez battling for a place in the starting line-up.

Sanchez was on the bench on Monday, but his impressive showing as a substitute could see him start against Liverpool.

The Reds head into the game level on points with leaders Manchester City and will leapfrog their title rivals if they can avoid defeat at Old Trafford.

Recent draws against Leicester City and West Ham United were a blow to Liverpool’s title hopes, but they got back on track with a 3-0 victory over Bournemouth in their last Premier League outing.

Virgil van Dijk will return in defence after missing the midweek draw with Bayern Munich in the Champions League due to suspension.

Van Dijk’s return eases Jurgen Klopp’s defensive worries, with Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez both still sidelined.

Fabinho and Georginio Wijnaldum are expected to fill two of the three midfield roles against United, with Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Naby Keita battling for the other spot.

Liverpool came out on top in the reverse fixture, with Xherdan Shaqiri coming off the bench to inspire a 3-1 victory at Anfield back in December.

Shaqiri’s rapid-fire double strike in the second-half gave Jurgen Klopp’s side the three points they fully deserved.

Sadio Mane had put the home side again, but Jesse Lingard took advantage of a howler from Reds’ goalkeeper Alisson to level the game.

However, Shaqiri was introduced with 20 minutes to go and changed the course of the game with devastating effect.

That result sparked Jose Mourinho’s exit from Old Trafford, but United have improved tremendously since then.

United triumphed 2-1 in the corresponding fixture last season and they look a good bet to pick up three points this weekend.
