Manchester City fancied to overhaul Liverpool in the title race

The Premier League title race now looks down to two teams following Tottenham Hotspur’s disappointing 2-1 defeat at Burnley on Saturday.

Liverpool’s 0-0 draw at Manchester United the following day took them back to the top of the table, one point ahead of reigning champions Manchester City.

However, bookmakers listed at match-bonus-code.co.uk strongly fancy City to overhaul Liverpool between now and the end of the season.

The Reds will be happy to be back on top of the pile, although it is clear that all is not right with Jurgen Klopp’s team at the moment.

They had a big opportunity to go to Old Trafford and beat an injury hit United team, but ended up producing a dismal performance.

Their normal energy and speed of attacking play was missing, with their midfield lacking the creativity needed to open up United.

It was not the first time they have been poor in the past few weeks and the pressure of leading the title race appears to be taking its toll.

An injury to Roberto Firmino will not help their cause, while Mohamed Salah’s poor form in recent weeks is a major concern.

Having looked on the ropes following their defeat at Newcastle United at the end of January, City have looked back to their best in recent weeks and will be difficult to stop this term.

Both sides are in action in midweek, with Liverpool hosting Watford while City welcome Watford to the Etihad Stadium.

Both sides should pick up three points, meaning City may have to wait until Saturday before they return to the top of the standings.

Pep Guardiola’s side will fancy their chances of winning at Bournemouth, cranking up the pressure on Liverpool ahead of their big derby clash at Everton on Sunday.

City’s toughest tests during the rest of the campaign come in a four day period towards the end of April, with games against Spurs (H) and United (A) expected to test their title credentials.

In addition to this weekend’s Merseyside derby Liverpool still have to face Spurs and Chelsea, although with both games at Anfield they will expect to come out on top in each.

If City can nab first place this weekend it could turn out to be the pivotal moment in this season’s title race. With a deeper squad than their rivals, City look a decent bet to win the Premier League once again.
