Can Ange turn things around at Tottenham?

Ange Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham Hotspur hangs by a thread despite the Australian manager being considered the architect of a new era in North London until not long ago.

While Telegraph Sport insists Daniel Levy won’t make any impulsive decision regarding the 59-year-old’s career in the capital, the pressure is mounting on the ex-Celtic boss.

Spurs’ unfathomable form fluctuations hit a new low last Sunday as they threw away a two-goal cushion in a 4-3 home defeat to fellow city rivals Chelsea, losing further ground on the Premier League top four.

Now winless in four consecutive games across all competitions, Tottenham’s current squad seems up the creek without a paddle amid intense speculation surrounding Postecoglou’s future.

Remarkable inconsistency

It’s unfathomable how Tottenham can dismantle Manchester City 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium, only to draw 1-1 with Fulham at home the following weekend.

Incredible victories against top clubs followed by sub-par results as pre-match favourites have been a common theme for the Lilywhites under Postecoglou.

Notoriously inconsistent, Spurs have become emblematic of unpredictability.

Postecoglou’s all-out-attack approach makes Tottenham one of the most enjoyable teams to watch for neutrals.

However, substantial defensive woes and a lack of cohesion between the lines raise concerns over his ability to deliver sustained success at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Change of course

Considered one of the leading candidates to become one of the first Premier League managers to be relieved of their duties this season, Postecoglou is walking a tightrope.

What better way to salvage his career at Tottenham than ending the club’s 16-year title drought?

Despite an indifferent Premier League campaign, lifting the league title was never a realistic target for Tottenham.

Spurs’ decent results in the UEFA Europa League could offer the experienced manager a lifeline in London as they’ve positioned themselves nicely for automatic knockout qualification.

They’re also in contention for the League Cup title after ousting Man City from the competition in October.

Even though things have not gone Tottenham’s way of late, Postecoglou deserves the benefit of the doubt.
