5 Premier League teams that could face the drop

After surpassing 10 matches in the current Premier League season and looking at the odds after comparing the best football betting sites, the relegation contenders are becoming a little more obvious. We have decided to take a look into the five most likely teams to be in the drop zone come May.

Crystal Palace

Palace had already plummeted to heavy odds-on favourites following a remarkably bad start to the season, failing to score a single goal in SEVEN matches. Frank de Boer got the boot after just four games and ex-England boss Roy Hodgson took the vacancy.

Results have improved slightly following 5-0 and 4-0 thumpings from Man City and Man United, picking up four points with a win over Chelsea and a late draw with West Ham. Can the former West Brom boss keep them up against the odds?

Swansea City

Welsh side Swansea City pulled off the impossible in escaping relegation under Paul Clement last season, defeating the likes of Liverpool and Everton along the way. After a slightly underwhelming summer which resulted in star man Gylfi Sigurdsson’s exit, the Swans look in danger of the drop once again.

Clement’s side are second favourites for the drop at the time of writing and look utterly bereft of goals as they opt to play a defensive game too regularly. The former Bayern assistant is under pressure to get the sack and their squad looks quite poor – it could be the end of an era for the Swans come May.

Huddersfield Town

Pre-season favourites for the drop Huddersfield have been mightily impressive in their opening 10 games, even defeating Man United in their latest home match. However, their limp 3-0 defeat at Liverpool has seen the Terriers plummet in the relegation odds. It’s clearly going to be tight at the bottom, but are David Wagner’s side going to plummet in a bad run of form? It’s certainly not impossible given their predominantly second tier experienced squad.

AFC Bournemouth

Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth defied the odds to survive in the 2015/16 season before pushing all the way up to the top half in their second full campaign. Unfortunately for Cherries fans, their biggest summer spend has seemingly resulted in regression rather than progression.

A tough run of fixtures against the likes of Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal hasn’t helped, but Howe’s side are currently second bottom in the league. The Cherries must raise their game in the more favourable matches to escape a first Premier League relegation battle.

Brighton and Hove Albion

Chris Hughton’s Brighton aren’t particularly at risk of the drop at the time of writing, but a lack of innovation and creativity, especially in away games means we must keep tabs on them.

The former Ireland international runs a tight shift in charge of the Seagulls, operating primarily with a defence first approach. Most of their points thus far have been earned at the AMEX Stadium – should they begin to drop points in crucial home matches, they could be dragged right back into the mix.
