While there is still time for each of them to salvage something from the campaign, they can ill-afford to lose any further ground on the teams above them.
The Red Devils will be gunning for revenge after being defeated 3-0 by Tottenham in the reverse fixture and their upcoming fixture should be well worth watching.
Aston Villa vs Chelsea – February 22
Aston Villa and Chelsea have their sights set on Champions League qualification and their clash on February 22 could be pivotal in determining which one of them achieves the feat.
Both teams were inconsistent over the festive period and will be desperate to keep themselves in contention to claim a place in the top four.
Villa’s involvement in this season’s Champions League has stretched their playing resources, although the January transfer window could offer them some respite.
By contrast, Chelsea have been able to rotate their sizeable squad in the Europa Conference League, which could give them a useful advantage as the season progresses.
Manchester City vs Liverpool – February 23
Man City’s miserable run of form towards the end of last year blew a massive hole in their hopes of winning the Premier League for the fifth successive season.
Regardless of how the land lies by the time Liverpool visit the Etihad Stadium on February 23, Pep Guardiola’s side will be eager to make an eye-catching statement.
They were 12 points adrift of the Reds after 20 matches and it would be one of the greatest comebacks in football history if they could bridge the gap.
However, Liverpool have previously blown a healthy lead in the Premier League and a defeat against City could trigger another meltdown on the red half of Merseyside.
