Premier League Match Week 8: Preview & predictions

The 2020/21 Premier League season rolls on this weekend, with some key fixtures taking place at both ends of the table.

The standout game is undoubtedly on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium as Manchester City go head-to-head with reigning champions Liverpool.

Both sides have been in decent form over the past few weeks and will be eager to showcase their respective title credentials this weekend.

Read on as we preview some of the biggest games scheduled for this weekend and pick out a betting accumulator that we fancy to pay dividends.

City ready to roll against the reds

City head into the game knowing that a victory would move them to within two points of Liverpool with a game in hand.

They are unbeaten in their last eight games in all competitions and will rightly fancy their chances of enhancing that record against the Reds.

City haven’t been beaten at home by Liverpool since 2015 and ran out comfortable 4-0 winners on their most recent meeting in July.

Despite leading the table and backed by some to retain the title this season, Liverpool remain vulnerable at the back and City are strongly fancied to pick up three points this weekend.

Pressure mounting on United boss

Manchester United travel to Goodison Park to face Everton on Saturday desperately needing to produce a positive performance.

The Red Devils have won just twice in the league this season and turned in a lacklustre display against Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The pressure is undoubtedly mounting on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and a defeat this weekend could spell the end of his time in charge at Old Trafford.

Everton have gone off the boil after making an impressive start to the season, and this game has draw written all over it.

Leicester set for tough Wolves test

Leicester City have bounced back from successive home defeats to record impressive victories at Arsenal and Leeds United in their last two outings.

They return to the King Power Stadium on Sunday to face a Wolverhampton Wanderers team that is once again performing pretty well in the Premier League.

The two sides fought out two goalless draws last season, and there is likely to be little to choose between them this time around.

Under 2.5 goals in the match can be backed at odds of 11/20 and that looks to be a banker bet for the upcoming round of games.

Chelsea can cut Blades down to size

Chelsea were a little inconsistent during the early part of the campaign, but there have been signs in recent weeks that they are now beginning to hit their stride.

The Blues’ 3-0 victory over Rennes in the Champions League on Wednesday was the fifth successive game they have kept a clean sheet in all competitions.

Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has added stability at the back, while Timo Werner has been in fine goalscoring form up front.

Sheffield United have picked up just one point this season and look set to enjoy another difficult 90 minutes at Stamford Bridge.

Spurs fancied to win at West Brom

Tottenham Hotspur are just two points off top spot after seven matches and look a good bet to record a victory at West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

Spurs were forced to work hard by Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend, but the extra quality in their squad eventually shone through.

Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have been lethal in front of goal this term, while Gareth Bale will be eager to impress following his recent return to the Premier League.

The Baggies have failed to win since returning to the top-flight, and they are unlikely to cause Jose Mourinho’s team too many problems.

Arsenal aiming to slay Villa

Arsenal will be keen to keep tabs on the early pace-setters in the Premier League as they take on Aston Villa on Sunday evening.

The Gunners deservedly won at Man Utd last weekend, and a victory against Dean Smith’s team would leave them handily placed heading into the international break.

Villa made an excellent start to the season, before shipping seven goals in their last two matches to slide down the table.

If Arsenal are aiming to finish in the top four these are the type of games they should be winning, and they are fancied to do just that.

Premier League Predictions: Chelsea are the banker bet of the weekend and should have little difficulty seeing off struggling Sheffield United.

Spurs are also expected to pick up three points at West Brom, while Arsenal can match the feat at home to Villa.
