Premier League 2025/26 Matchday 6: Liverpool bid to keep rolling

Reigning Premier League champions Liverpool will bid to continue their unbeaten start to the 2025/26 season at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

It would be fair to say that the Reds have been steady rather than spectacular on their way to recording five consecutive victories this term.

However, winning is the name of the game in the Premier League and a five-point lead after just five games is not to be sniffed at.

Read on as we look at the fixtures for Matchday 6, before previewing what promises to be an informative weekend in the English top flight.

Premier League 2025/26 – Matchday 6 Preview

The clash between Palace and Liverpool has the potential to be the standout game of the weekend if both teams produce their best form.

Liverpool have traditionally dominated the head-to-head between these two sides, but the narrative has changed significantly over the past few seasons.

Palace have won one and drawn three of their last six league meetings with Liverpool. They also triumphed after a penalty shoot-out in the Community Shield earlier this season.

The Eagles have become a tough nut to crack – a point noted by Liverpool manager Arne Slot in his pre-match press conference.

“Even we find it hard to score against Palace” Slot said. “In three games we only scored one goal, one we scored twice which they did as well. So, it’s difficult to score again.

“They have improved. We have players who can score goals and the quality as a team to create chances for the front four players.

“It’s because of how they play and line up with a 5-4-1 – it’s not easy to create, so when we do, would be smart to score as soon as we can.

“You can only score a winner if you work as hard as we do to stop them scoring too. You do see teams who get frustrated in transition.

“But we keep working and understand we can win it late as long as it is level. We have to bring this to every game, especially against Palace who are a big threat on the counters and set-pieces.”

Elsewhere, the action on Matchday 6 gets underway with an intriguing lunchtime clash between Brentford and Manchester United at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The Bees lost several key players this summer and have been struggling for form under new manager Keith Andrews, picking up just four points from five games.

United have made an inconsistent start to the new campaign, but their recent 2-1 home victory over Chelsea was a step in the right direction.

The Manchester City versus Burnley game should be a home banker. City are already eight points behind Liverpool, and need to go on a long winning run.

The Clarets have conceded eight goals in their first five matches back in the top flight and they look set to endure a tough afternoon at the Etihad Stadium.

Chelsea will bid to bounce back from their defeat at Old Trafford when they welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Maresca’s side have been hit and miss this season, but this fixture is an ideal opportunity to demonstrate they can mount a sustained title challenge.

Newcastle United versus Arsenal is the headline act on Sunday. The Gunners head into the weekend second in the table, five points behind Liverpool.

While Mikel Arteta’s side have produced a couple of reasonable performances this term, their overall form has been patchy.

The Magpies have largely been underwhelming, winning one and drawing three of their five outings. Manager Eddie Howe could be under pressure if his team continues in the same vein.

Everton and West Ham United complete the latest round of matches when they face each other at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday night.

The Toffees made a steady start to the new campaign, but were on the wrong side of the scoreline against local rivals Liverpool last weekend.

Wolverhampton Wanderers eliminated them from the League Cup in midweek – a result which garnered plenty of criticism from the fans.

Manager David Moyes will be desperate to halt the mini-slump against his former club and his team are fancied to pick up three points.

The Hammers are struggling badly under Graham Potter, conceding 13 goals in five games. Their situation is unlikely to improve on Monday.
