Man City’s 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest last weekend left them fifth in the standings, four points adrift of their City Ground conquerors.

The Seagulls triumphed 2-1 in the reverse fixture and will travel to the Etihad Stadium believing they can record their fifth consecutive league victory.

However, Brighton have never previously defeated Man City on their own patch and will need to create history if they are to buck that trend.

Forest have a golden opportunity to strengthen their position as they head to Portman Road to face relegation-threatened Ipswich Town.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have been the surprise package this season, but look capable of keeping themselves in contention to qualify for the Champions League.

His team defended resolutely against Man City at the City Ground, before snatching the victory courtesy of Callum Hudson-Odoi’s late goal.

Ipswich have won just three times this season and are on course to make an immediate return to the Championship after just one season in the top flight.

They were beaten 1-0 by Forest in the reverse fixture in November and also suffered a penalty shoot-out defeat in their recent fifth round FA Cup clash.

Bournemouth are another club who have defied expectations this season to force their way into contention for Champions League qualification.

They welcome Brentford to the Vitality Stadium on Saturday with their sights firmly set on ending a three-game winless streak in the Premier League.

The Cherries blew a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, and will be keen to regain the winning thread against Thomas Frank’s side.

Brentford have been extremely inconsistent his season, but could still secure European qualification if they string together a positive run of results over the next few weeks.

Two of the three games scheduled for Sunday could also have an impact on the battle to claim a top five finish this season.

Arsenal’s title hopes of have gone up in smoke over the past few weeks, and they will be keen to ensure they keep the chasing pack at bay.

They are currently four points ahead of Forest in the standings, but face a tricky test against fourth-placed Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium this weekend.

The Blues are fourth in the table, just two points behind Forest, and will be desperate to maintain the pressure on their rivals for European qualification.

Fulham’s top five hopes were dented by Brighton last weekend, but they could bounce back on home soil against inconsistent Tottenham.
