Confusion over his date of birth almost put an end to Chancel Mbemba's hopes of a career with a European club.
He was registered by his two first Congolese youth clubs as being born in 1988 yet, for a Cup of Nations qualifier in June 2011, his date of birth was listed as 30 November 1991.
Furthermore, the birth date recorded by Anderlecht was 8 August 1994 which has been widely accepted as the genuine date.
