Comments:

League position: 13th Brighton and Hove Albion had now won consecutive home games in the top division for the first time since November 1982. The Seagulls had now used 16 different players in their Premier League games in 2017-18; the lowest total amongst all clubs so far in this season. Tomer Hemed had now scored 15 goals in his last 23 league starts at the AMEX Stadium. Brighton and Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton said: ”The goal was the one opportunity we took in a tight game, and we had to dig deep at times. The way the game was going, we didn’t feel there was going to be a lot of chances. We certainly had to keep a clean sheet against a very good Newcastle side and just look for those moments. We needed that little bit of brilliant or fortune, but it was certainly good to get the clean sheet today.”

League position: 9th Newcastle United had now lost 22 of their last 24 away games in the Premier League when they have conceded the first goal (won one). They failed in their attempt to win consecutive away games in the Premier League for the first time since November 2014. Both teams had now scored in only one of the Magpies' six games so far in this Premier League season (the 2-1 win against Stoke City). Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez said: “We did enough to get a point at least. Both teams had chances. We had a lot of control and good chances at the end. The goal for me was a foul, pushing and blocking. But you cannot change the decision. We deserved more. We are still without too much experience in the Premier League. We have to manage these situations a bit better.”
