Outsiders for the Premier League Golden Boot Award

The new Premier League season is now well underway, with many of the leading attackers in the English game having already opened their accounts. While a number of the usual suspects currently find themselves at the top of the goalscoring charts, there are also a hatful of strikers who are also in the mix at this early stage of the campaign. So, is the 19/20 Premier League season the one in which an outsider will get their hands of the much-coveted golden boot award?

With seven goals to his name from just five matches, Sergio Aguero leads the way for city at the top of the goalscoring charts, however the 2014/15 Premier League golden boot winner is joined by Chelsea youngster Tammy Abraham, after the 21-year-old hit a hat-trick against Wolves last time out. Having spent time on loan at the likes of Swansea City and Aston Villa in the Championship over recent years, Abraham is now the leading man for Frank Lampard’s Chelsea, which could well mean that he adds significantly to his current tally over the coming weeks and months.

Elsewhere, Norwich City’s Teemu Pukki is another striker who has hit the ground running, with the Finn having found the back of the net on six occasions in his first few weeks in the top-flight, including strikes against both Liverpool and Manchester City. The Canaries have already demonstrated that they are likely to be one of the most entertaining teams in the Premier League, with Daniel Farke’s side having defeated Pep Guardiola’s reigning champions in what was perhaps the match of the season to date. Pukki is now one of the outsiders worth backing by one the more bigger firms like Bet365 sports betting, with the 29-year-old being priced at 25/1 to claim the award come the end of the campaign.

Meanwhile,, West Ham striker Sebastien Haller has made a promising start to life in England, with the Frenchman having scored three times for the Hammers in the opening weeks. Haller became West Ham’s record signing following his arrival from Eintracht Frankfurt for an estimated £45, with the towering forward having already shown his skill and ability in the final third. While a shot at the being the Premier League’s top scorer this season would appear to be unlikely, Haller could well be a name in which we see a lot of over the coming years.

Top scorers from recent seasons, including the likes of Mohamed Salah, Harry Kane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have all started the new season in good form, with the latter having scored twice in Arsenal’s frustrating draw with Watford, bringing his current tally to five in the process. While the Gunners are looking anything but secure in defence, they are undoubtedly one of the most dangerous teams in attack, meaning that the Ganonese international is another attacker worth backing for the Golden Boot.

For those who are looking to bet on an outsider collecting the award come the end of the season, the likes of Abraham, Pukki, Haller and Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson are among the names worth considering, with Premier League results so far indicating that fans could well be in for a number of surprises over the coming months.
