MLS, FanDuel partner to open Audi Field’s first retail sportsbook

The debut of FanDuel’s cutting-edge retail sportsbook at Audi Field, the home of Major League Soccer’s DC United team in Washington, D.C., on July 8, 2022, was a major advancement in the legalization of sports betting for the league.

FanDuel’s partnership with Major League Soccer

The NBA, NFL, and NHL are all expected to continue rolling out on-site betting facilities in collaboration with the major operators eager to increase their market presence. FanDuel is the first sportsbook to open up shop at an MLS stadium, bringing the soccer league into line with other sports leagues.

Fans can watch D.C. United games and other sporting events at the 2,700-square-foot FanDuel Sportsbook, which is close to Gate A. It has three betting booths, 47 HD televisions, two enormous video boards, 18 self-service kiosks, and an unobstructed view of the field.

This is quite exciting for the fans who can now watch their favorite teams play while placing bets at the same stadium. Hopefully, the sportsbook will offer some exciting deals like the bonuses offered by online casinos in Michigan and other states across the nation.

All major sportsbooks and online casinos offer welcoming deals and various packages, like reload bonuses offered to players who play regularly at iGaming establishments. The FanDuel sportsbook opening at Audie Field is going to bring in more new players on the action for both the company’s sportsbook and online casino.

The opening comes after FanDuel opened retail locations at the Phoenix Footprint Center, which is the home of the NBA’s Phoenix Suns and WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury, in September 2021. A sportsbook at the United Center, which is the home of the NBA’s Chicago Bulls and NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks, is likely to be the company’s next location.

When the D.C. City Council enacted legislation in 2018 legalizing online gambling, it became the first legislative body to permit in-stadium sportsbooks and to allow them to launch on-site betting at professional sporting facilities. This paved the way for D.C. sports betting within an arena.

The first to enter the market was Caesars, which established its sportsbook at Capital One Arena in August 2020. BetMGM then opened its on-site bookmaker at Nationals Park in January 2022. As a result, the addition of FanDuel to Audi Field completes a trifecta of stadium gambling options in the capital.

No mobile betting will be available at Audi Field any time soon

Interestingly, FanDuel has chosen not to allow mobile betting at Audi Field. FanDuel has opted to solely provide retail sports betting at this time, in contrast to the sportsbooks at Capital One Arena and Nationals Park, and there is no estimated launch date for mobile sports betting in the state. In the meantime, FanDuel has launched its own branded live dealer studios in Pennsylvania and Michigan.

Washington’s current setup permits GambetDC, a division of the DC Lottery, to provide mobile sports betting throughout the district. Other operators, like BetMGM, Caesars, and FanDuel, have the option of providing mobile sports betting applications district-wide at a 20% tax rate, or they can limit their service to a strict two-block radius around the real retail store and pay a lower 10% tax.

The distance between Audi Field and Nationals Park, which is well inside the two-block range, creates an unusual opportunity for bettors at Audi Field to use BetMGM’s mobile app rather than FanDuel.
