Scunthorpe's hopes of bouncing straight back to the Second Division were boosted as they maintained their 100% record after two 2000-01 games with a hard fought win against the League new boys. It was not all good Iron news though as skipper Nigel Pepper suffered an horrendous home debut. In a clash with Paul Webb, the former Aberdeen midfielder broke a shin bone - an injury that was likely to sideline him for the rest of the campaign. To rub salt into Pepper's wound, ref Chris Foy decreed that he was the aggressor and was shown the red card as he lay on the stretcher. Ten man United took their revenge in the best possible way. Summer signing Peter Morrison supplied a superb cross for Steve Torpey to head them into an interval lead. Jan Molby's charges struggled to make their advantage tell and fell further behind Torpey flicked-on for Wayne Graves to record his first senior goal with a clever chip over the advancing Harriers keeper.
