Pepper joined Scunthorpe United in the 2000 close season and was immediately named club captain. He led the Iron to victory at Macclesfield on the opening day. But then had the misfortune to suffer a broken leg just 13 minutes into the following game against Kidderminster and the injury ruled him out of action for the remainder of the campaign. He is a hard-tackling midfield player able to break down opposition attacks and always performs with great drive and determination. Pepper decided to retire from full-time football at the end of the 2001-02 season.
