Both promotion hopefuls had suffered 0-1 defeats at the weekend but it was Cheltenham who turned the tables to grab the all-important goal some fifteen minutes from time. Hugh McAuley's inswinging corner from the left was headed home by the gangly figure of Michael Duff as he rose between two defenders for his first of the season and third in League football. Darlington were left to rue a series of missed chances, none better than when Steve Book saved Lee Nogan's penalty after Chris Banks' handballed as half-time approached. In a keenly fought contest, Town held sway in the first half. Darlo edged it after the interval and could have saved a point when sub Lehit Zeghdane blazed over from eight yards. Naylor's woes were componded when he was sent-off for a second bookable offence shortly before the close.
