Comments:

John Arne Riise's opening goal was timed at 43 seconds. It broke the record for the quickest goal in a League Cup Final. The 'old' record had lasted only twelve months as it was set in the 2004 Final when Joseph-Desire Job's opener for Middlesbrough against Bolton Wanderers was timed at one minute and 45 seconds. The previous holder was Stoke City's Terry Conroy against Chelsea after five minutes of the 1972 Final.
