Having made just two Worthington Cup appearances for Liverpool in 1999-2000, it was a big surprise when Djimi started 2000-01 as first-choice left back and held his place for eight games before being displaced by new signing Christian Ziege.

He then returned for another brief spell in November but the UEFA Cup tie against Olympiakos in Athens was his last appearance in the first team for the season.

He subsequently had some problems with hamstring and knee injuries but otherwise appeared in the club's reserve team.

Djimi was a regular member of the team as his performances for Liverpool improved under Rafa Benitez.

He joined Charlton Athletic in August 2006 with a three-year contract.

Djimi joined Portsmouth in January 2007 with a contract to June 2009.
