Barnet v Cardiff City, 26 August 2000

CompetitionLeague Division 3

Both teams preserved their unbeaten records after three 2000/01 League games but it was Barnet who were left rueing their luck after letting slip a two goal lead in the last ten minutes. The Bees opened brightly although stout visiting defence meant it took them to the half hour mark to go ahead. Scott McGleish scored his fourth of the new term to go joint top scorer in the division with a poacher's finish when the ball broke to him ten yards out. Barnet were celebrating their ten years in the Football League and seemed to have good reason to cheer when Ken Charlery netted their second as time was running out. Darren Currie's precise right wing cross found the veteran striker in acres of space at the far post. Cardiff were far from a beaten team though under new manager Bobby Gould, and Josh Low gave them a lifeline as he shot through a crowded area from an acute angle. Rob Earnshaw then seemed to have spurned the chance of an unlikely equaliser, but the Wales Under-21 striker made amends when he scored with an acrobatic bicycle kick.
