Legg was a hugely influential figure for Cardiff City in their promotion campaign of 2000-01 during which he made a successful switch to playing as a sweeper. A hard-working and committed player his long throw once again proved to be a powerful weapon for the Bluebirds.
He was rewarded for his efforts with a recall to the Wales team for the World Cup qualifier in Armenia and was also voted the club's 'Player of the Year' for the second year in succession.
Legg joined Peterborough United as player / coach in July 2003 on a one-year contract. It was extended to June 2006 in June 2004 but he was made avilable for transfer in October 2004. However, Legg was forced to retire in April 2005 due to illness.
