Man Utd bid for Sancho rejected

Manchester United have seen their opening bid of £67 million for Jadon Sancho rejected, according to reports.

The Borussia Dortmund forward is coming off a less than spectacular season by the high standards he set, though eight goals and 11 assists in 26 Bundesliga appearances remains elite.

Sancho has been linked with a move to the Premier League giants for over a year but they have failed to reach an agreement with his owners prior to Euro 2020. It is believed that an excellent tournament from the England international would only see his value increase further.

The Three Lions have seen their odds drop to 11/2 second favourites in recent days following an injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold and unconvincing performances in their two warm-up matches.

Gareth Southgate’s side can be backed with a Coral sign up offer, meaning you don’t have to risk your own cash in the process. World champions France may be seen as better value as 5/1 favourites though.

As Borussia Dortmund only snuck into the Champions League spots in the final weeks of the season it is understood that Jadon Sancho will likely make a move away from Signal Iduna Park this summer.

It is understood the German giants have set an asking price of £80 million for the highly-rated 21-year-old. Manchester United may want to strongly consider matching that value before England’s opening game against Croatia on Sunday.

In today’s market the fee seems very reasonable for a player that has had 78 goal involvements (37 goals, 41 assists) in 92 Bundesliga games (75 starts) over the past three seasons, playing in a front three.

Manchester United are coming off a season where they finished runners-up in both the Premier League and UEFA Europa League. The addition of Sancho would be huge to their attack, which also includes Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial.

The former Manchester City youth would add an additional threat in both open play and on the counter-attack for the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba to create chances for.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the Manchester United hierarchy should be looking to revise their bid immediately before other parties become interested and potentially start a bidding war.

United failed to come to an agreement with Borussia Dortmund last summer, on the hope that his value would be reduced this time around.

It is understood the club and player have a gentleman’s agreement in which they would be willing to let their superstar leave should someone match their asking price. If the reported £80 million fee is all that Dortmund are looking for then it’s not unrealistic that he will be off to one of Europe’s top clubs this summer.

Borussia Dortmund also have interest in other young superstars on their books, including Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham.

Whilst the record champions of England are trying to sign the forward, many fans believe they should also be looking to sign a new centre-back and central midfielder ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.
