Harry Kane future in doubt as he closes in on international goalscoring record

Once again, the future of Harry Kane is a subject of discussion and the striker has refused to rule out a move away from Tottenham Hotspur.

Kane was heavily linked with a switch to Manchester City last summer, but a move failed to materialise as the English champions were unable to reach an agreement with Spurs.

Manchester City are currently the favourites with bookmakers to complete a treble this season as they lead the betting odds for the Premier League, Champions League and the FA Cup. If you are playing Lucky Numbers or betting on football this season, it’s worth backing City for at least one of these competitions.

However, City might have had the league wrapped up already if they had signed Kane last summer. The 28-year-old evidently wanted a move to the Etihad but was resigned to yet another season in North London and his recent comments suggest that a move away is still on the cards.

When quizzed about his future ahead of the upcoming World Cup, the 28-year-old said:

“Obviously, my main focus is just finishing this season, first and foremost.

“We’re still in a competition for the top four and that’s where my focus lies. I can’t control what will happen in the future.

“It is a big year for everyone. Not just me.

“I want to be going into that tournament (World Cup) in the best form possible, so it’s just about controlling what I can control and that’s doing what I have been doing the last few months.

“It’s important over the summer to stay focused and I look forward to a fantastic tournament.”

Kane has been lethal in front of goal this term having netted 32 times in 47 outings, and recently moved up to fifth place in the Premier League’s all-time scoring charts courtesy of his 178th strike in the competition.

The England captain is currently on duty with the national team as he seeks to close in on becoming England’s top goalscorer.

With 48 international strikes to his name, Kane currently sits one goal behind the great Sir Bobby Charlton and a further four adrift of ex-Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney, who leads the way as things stand.

The Three Lions are due to take on Switzerland and Ivory Coast in two friendlies on the 26th and 29th of March respectively, and their irrepressible forward will be looking to move within touching distance of making history.

While he will be keen to achieve the feat as soon as possible, Kane is widely expected to break the record sooner or later with the UEFA Nations League as well as the FIFA World Cup still to come before the end of the year.

The Spurs talisman is set for a crucial few months on and off the pitch as he prepares to make significant strides in his club and international career.
