FA Cup fifth round 2024/25: Outright betting, draw, TV schedule & preview

The draw for the fifth round of the 2024/25 FA Cup has not been overly kind to most of the Championship teams remaining in the competition.

Cardiff City, Millwall and Plymouth Argyle have all landed away ties against Premier League clubs and their chances of making further progress looks slim.

However, at least one second tier team will make it through to the quarter-finals after north west rivals Preston and North End and Burnley were paired together.

FA Cup 2024/25 – Fifth-round preview

Manchester City are the new 2/1 favourites for the FA Cup after being handed a home draw against Plymouth in the fifth round of the competition.

Pep Guardiola’s side had to come from behind to win 2-1 at Leyton Orient in the previous round, but will likely find things a little easier at the Etihad Stadium.

However, Plymouth will travel to Manchester eager to cause another upset after dumping Premier League leaders Liverpool out of the FA Cup in round four.

Argyle withstood a late onslaught from Arne Slot’s side, but ultimately deserved their victory having produced a determined defensive display.

FA Cup holders Manchester United have been drawn at home to Fulham and will fancy their chances of making it through to the quarter-finals.

The Red Devils needed a stoppage time goal by Harry Maguire to see off Leicester City in the fourth round and another tight contest could be on the cards against the Cottagers.

The game is one of four all-Premier League ties in the fifth round. The most eye-catching is the clash between Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion at St James’ Park.

Newcastle have already reached the Carabao Cup final, but could have their work cut out against a Brighton side which defeated Chelsea in the previous round.

Nottingham Forest versus Ipswich Town and Bournemouth versus Wolverhampton Wanderers are the other ties involving Premier League clubs.

Aston Villa could be the value bet at odds of 7/1 in the FA Cup outright market after landing a home draw against Cardiff City in the fifth round.

Villa defeated Tottenham Hotspur in round four, while Cardiff edged past Stoke City after a penalty shoot-out. The Midlands outfit are a banker bet to go through.

Crystal Palace are also fancied to reach the quarter-final after being drawn at home to Millwall, while Burnley should have enough quality to beat Preston at Deepdale.
