Who has qualified for Euro 2024?

As previously highlighted by football37.dk, there will be 24 teams at the 2024 European Championship including hosts Germany who qualify automatically.

Another 20 teams book their places directly from the Euro 2024 qualifiers – the top two from each of the ten qualifying groups. The following nine teams have already qualified:

  • Germany (hosts)
  • Belgium
  • France
  • Portugal
  • Spain
  • Scotland
  • Turkey
  • Austria
  • England

A further 11 places are up for grabs when the final round of group games are played in November, while the remaining three spots will be determined via play-offs linked to 2022/23 Nations League performance.

The Netherlands are among the top teams yet to guarantee their place at Euro 2024, although they should get the job done with qualifiers still to come against Ireland (H) and Gibraltar (A).

Italy’s midweek defeat against England means they are in danger of missing out in Group C. They host North Macedonia before facing Ukraine in their final game.

Four points from those two fixtures would be enough to see Italy through and keep their hopes of retaining the Euro title alive.

Wales and Croatia are in contention for the final qualification spot in Group D, while Albania, Czechia. Poland and Moldova can still progress from Group E.

Hungary and Serbia look good bets to qualify from Group G, while Slovenia and Denmark are on the cusp of claiming the top two spots in Group H.

Romania, Switzerland and Israel will battle for qualification from Group I and Slovakia look set to join Portugal in progressing from Group J.

How do the Euro 2024 play-offs work?

The key dates to determine which teams take the remaining 15 places at Euro 2024 are as follows:

  • Matchday 9: November 15-18, 2023
  • Matchday 10: November 19-21, 2023
  • Play-off semi-finals: March 21, 2024
  • Play-off finals: March 26, 2024

There will be 12 teams in the play-offs split into three brackets of four teams each based on performance in Leagues A, B and C in the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League.

The group winners of Leagues A, B and C are selected for the play-offs, but they will be replaced by the next best-ranked team in their league if they have already qualified.

If fewer than four teams from one league enter the play-offs, the first available slot is allocated to the best-ranked group winner of League D – Estonia.

The remaining slots are allocated on the basis of the overall 2022/23 Nations League rankings to the highest-ranked teams that have not already qualified.

The group winners of Leagues A, B and C cannot be in a play-off path with teams from a higher league.
