Malmo FF are the most successful team in the Swedish top flight having won the title 27 times. IFK Goteborg (13) and IFK Norrkoping (13) are next in the all-time list.
Famous Swedish international players
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is widely considered to be one of the greatest strikers of the 21st century. He is Sweden’s all-time top scorer with 62 goals in 118 appearances.
His partnership with Henrik Larsson made Sweden one of the most feared teams in international football, although they ultimately missed out on winning silverware.
His outrageous back-heeled goal against Italy at the 2004 European Championship is one of the most iconic moments in international football history.
Ibrahimovic’s overbearing ego was undoubtedly tiresome, but his status as one of Sweden’s most famous international players cannot be denied.
By contrast, Larsson was far more amenable, displaying class throughout his time in the international set-up. He ended his career with 37 goals in 106 games.
Looking further back in time, Gunnar Gren and Gunnar Nordahl were standout performers for Sweden as they won gold at the 1948 Olympic Games.

Numerous Swedish players have made their mark in the English Premier League since the competition was launched in 1992.
