Hemmings linked up with his old boss Ian Atkins at Carlisle shortly before the start of the 2000-01 campaign and initially featured in a left-wing-back role. He appeared regularly in the first two months of the campaign but always looked more comfortable going forward and it was no surprise when he later switched to playing on the left side of midfield. He failed to register a goal but provided the cross from the left flank that enabled Scott Dobie to equalise in the 1-1 draw against Plymouth in February.
