This experienced goalkeeper joined Chesterfield in the 2000 close season and went on to become an ever-present for the Spireites while enjoying being a member of a Third Division promotion team for the second year in succession.
The big man looked unruffled throughout the season, offering a consistency and reliability that turned a defence that had leaked in the 1999- 2000 campaign into one that let in only 42 last time round.
Anticipation, good positioning and confident handling allow him to make it all look rather more comfortable than it actually is, and should one day earn him the chance to play at a higher level.
A member of the PFA's Third Division team, he joined Rotherham United again in the 2001 summer, extending his stay at Millmoor for another three years in July 2003.
Mike's contract at Wigan Athletic was extended to June 2009 in July 2008 then to June 2010 in May 2009, to June 2011 in May 2010, to June 2012 in July 2011, to June 2013 in June 2012 and to June 2014 in June 2013.
