Cardiff City's skipper had the misfortune to suffer a major achilles problem in November 2000 that was to keep him out of the remainder of the club's promotion season and he spent the second half of the campaign working in the commentary box for local station Real Radio.

Although he not the quickest of strikers, Kevin Nugent was an effective targetman who was strong in the air and could also hold the ball up and bring others into the game.

Following a loan spell, Kevin joined Swansea City in February 2003 with a contract to the end of the season, at which point it was extended to cover the 2003-04 campaign.
