Blackpool's last visit to Newport was on 2 May 1987. A crowd of 1,247 at Somerton Park witnessed the 1-1 draw that condemned the old County club to relegation to Division Four of the Football League.
The original Newport County - which was formed in 1912 - folded in the 1988/89 season.
Newport AFC joined the Hellenic League in 1989. Their name was changed to Newport County AFC in 1999. At the time of this game, they were members of the Premier Division of the Dr Martens League (previously known as the Southern League).
