League position: 13th This was the first time that Manchester City had conceded five or more goals in a home game in the Premier League since a 5-1 defeat to Arsenal at Maine Road on 22 February 2003. This was the first time that City had lost their opening home game of a league season since 1999-2000 at Maine Road against Wolverhampton Wanderers in League Division 1. At 17 years and 231 days, Liam Delap became the fourth youngest player to make his Premier League debut for City. Rory and Liam Delap became the 16th father and son pairing to both play in the Premier League. In his 200th appearance in the Premier League, former Leicester City player Riyad Mahrez scored his 58th goal in the competition.

League position: 1st Leicester City had now when their opening three games in a league season for the fourth time; for the first time since 1922-23 and for the first time in the top division. Jamie Vardy had now scored two of his three hat-tricks in the Premier League against Manchester City. He had now scored nine goals for the Foxes against City in all competitions. They scored five or more goals in an away game in the Premier League for the first time since their record-breaking 9-0 win at Southampton on 25 October 2019. The Foxes became the sixth team to score 12 or more goals in their opening three games of a season in the Premier League.
