Premier League Season Review 2025-26
The 2025-26 Premier League was the 34th season in the competition`s history.
In manager Mikel Arteta`s fifth full season in charge, Arsenal won their fourth Premier League title and 14th English top-flight title, ending a 22-year wait since their previous Premier League success in 2004.
The season ran from 15 August 2025 to 24 May 2026. Arsenal were confirmed as champions with one game remaining and were presented with the trophy after beating Crystal Palace 2-1 away on the final day.
The total attendance at the 380 games was 15,820,861: an average of 41,634 (a 3.00% increase on 2024-25).
A total of 1,045 goals were scored: an average of 2.75 per game and 70 fewer than the previous season.
This was the seventh season that the Premier League had featured the use of video assistant referees (VAR).
This was the first full season that semi-automated offside technology was in use, following its introduction during the previous season on 12 April 2025.
This was the fourth season that teams were allowed to make five substitutions in a game. Additional substitutions could be made under the concussion protocol. Ref-cam technology was also used in selected matches during the opening round.
Arsenal led the table for 238 days after moving to the top on 4 October and remained there for virtually the rest of the season. They finished eight points clear of Manchester City, with Manchester United third and Aston Villa fourth.
The Premier League gained an additional Champions League place through the European Performance Spot, meaning five clubs qualified for the competition: Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Liverpool. Bournemouth and Sunderland qualified for the UEFA Europa League, while Brighton and Hove Albion qualified for the UEFA Conference League play-off round. Crystal Palace also qualified for the Europa League after winning the Conference League.
The three promoted clubs had contrasting fortunes. Leeds United and Sunderland both avoided relegation, the first promoted clubs to do so since 2022-23. Sunderland finished seventh with 54 points, equalling Wolverhampton Wanderers` record for the highest position by a newly promoted Premier League club.
Wolverhampton Wanderers were the first club relegated, followed by Burnley. West Ham United were relegated on the final day despite beating Leeds United 3-0, as Tottenham Hotspur avoided relegation by beating Everton. West Ham`s 39 points were the highest total for a relegated club since 2010-11.
Everton played their first season at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium after leaving Goodison Park. The highest attendance was 74,257 for Manchester United versus Burnley on 30 August, while the lowest was 10,762 for Bournemouth versus Burnley on 20 December.
Aston Villa recorded the longest winning run with eight consecutive victories, while Bournemouth had the longest unbeaten run at 18 matches. Wolverhampton Wanderers had the longest winless run, at 19 matches, and the longest losing run, at 11 matches.
